“The Allegrini company may be considered the result of the intelligence and hard work of Giovanni Allegrini, who was a straight forward, instinctive man who built an agricultural concern that was solid, efficient and innovative. He started working at a very young age and perfected the art of wine-making with great skill and an all-encompassing passion. He was given the evocative nickname “the barrel spider” because in the cellar he would proudly invite guests to taste his wine, and whilst listening to comments and opinions, spring like a spider from one precious barrel to another. The life-style, history and culture of Giovanni still represent, today, the key to understanding the philosophy and reasons behind the success of Allegrini. After the premature death of Giovanni in1983, his three offspring took over the company and have run it ever since with impassioned enthusiasm and ever-increasing skill and competence.”
1st Course Antipasto Salad
Wine-Jermann Pinot Grigio Friuli Italy
“It has an intense straw-yellow colour with a light nuance of antique rose. Its aroma is intense, full and fruity, with excellent persistence. Its taste is dry, velvety, and particularly well-orchestrated for its full body.”
2nd Course Italian Sausage and Ricotta Lasagna
Wine-Allegrini Valpolicella Classico Veneto Italy
“Ruby red in colour, with purplish-blue highlights; the nose exhibits fragrant fruit with prominent notes of cherries, echoed by fresher hints of pepper and aromatic herbs, typical of Corvina and Corvinone, the historic varietals of this appellation. Whilst young it is impressively lively and playful on the palate whereas some two years on it expresses greater delicacy and finesse.”
“The vineyard surrounds Villa della Torre, a splendid masterpiece of Renaissance architecture now owned by the family and produces a full-bodied red wine that has an ageing potential of at least ten years. The blend is the historic combination of Corvina and Rondinella with the addition of a small quantity of Sangiovese.”
