Special Guest Speaker-Scott Garrett with Syndicat/Revolution

Grapes of Spain Importer

“Our goal is to look for gems regardless of Denominacion de Origin as there are equally exciting wines from Alicante, Pla de Bages and Almansa as from Rioja, Ribera del Duero or Toro. It's not as if a wine's origin is unimportant however I'm not selling a D.O., I'm selling an individual wine. Another key to the style of wines in my portfolio is that many of the winemakers are young and talented; representing the new face of Spanish winemaking. They bring a new point of view to wine quality as many have traveled internationally and have had a broad exposure to the world of wine. Furthermore, many of these winemakers are inheriting old vineyards, a further key to quality.

We hand select each wine and my wines reflect the true personality, quality and character of each vineyard, grape and people who make it. The wines are modern but not international with a balance between fruit and oak, where oak frames fruit flavors. Concentration of fruit character comes from hard work in and understanding of the vineyard not extraction during fermentation. Finesse, not exclusive of concentration of fruit, is paramount to the style of wines I search to represent. I always search for wines that provide the best value for the money whether at $10 per bottle or $100. Finally I believe the wines in my portfolio represent an authentic expression of Spanish wine.”

1st Course

Calamares a la Romana

(Fried Calamari with Lemon Aioli)

Wine-Biutiful Cava Brut NV Spain

“Brilliant yellow. White peach, pear and a hint of tangerine on the perfumed nose. Silky and seamless on the palate, offering sappy orchard and pit fruit flavors that tighten up on the back half. Lingers nicely on the supple finish, which leaves a subtle floral note behind. 2021- 2024.” 89 points Vinous; Josh Raynolds – March 2021

2nd Course

Roast Halibut with Olives and Capers

Wine-Nessa Albarino DO Rias Baixas

“Bright aromas of lemon-lime are offset by a note of lanolin. A plump mouthfeel is enlivened by core acidity, while apple and melon flavors are clean and nice. In two words, this is delicious and refreshing.” 90 points Wine Enthusiast; Michael Schachner – February/March 2021

Entrée

Chicken and Chorizo

Rice

Wine-Vina Jaraba Crianza, DO La Mancha

(80% Tempranillo, 10% Cab, 10% Merlot)

“The wine delivers a fine nose of desiccated dark berries and black cherries, clove-like spice tones, cigar wrapper, excellent soil tones and an understated framing of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and velvety on the attack, with a good core of fruit, fine soil undertow and grip, buried tannins and a long, complex and very nicely balanced finish.”

Dessert

Tarta de Santiago

Spanish Almond Cake
