VINTAGE DOES ESPAÑA
PART 2: Jerez-zic Park: God Creates Man, Man Creates Sherry, Man Destroys Sherry, Sherry Finds A Way
Welcome… to Jerez-zic Park.
Now you may be thinking, perhaps we were so preoccupied with whether or not we could do a Sherry tasting, we didn't stop to think if we should. But I don't think you're giving us our due credit. The winemakers of Jerez (pronounced ‘Hereth,’ aka Sherry to you and me) have done and continue to do things which nobody's ever done before. How can we sit in the light of Sherry’s awesomeness and not act?
See, ordinary sherry-like wine can be made by blending relatively young ingredients, but true sherry demands decades. It is so complicated to make that replicating it is a fantasy for even the most talented of winemakers in other regions. And yet Sherry hasn’t been in fashion for decades, and its price reflects this in spite of the arduous craftsmanship it takes to create it. But if there's one thing that history has taught us, it's that Sherry will not be contained. Sherry breaks free, it expands to new territories, and crashes through barriers painfully, maybe even dangerously, but, uh, well, there it is.
Sherry’s no dinosaur. It’s the world’s most underrated wine treasure. Hold on to your butts.
