Zoe Curren is back at Biga bringing her wonderful wines from her Italian portfolio. Zoe has visited Italy multiple times and speaks fluent Italian. Zoe will start us with a Prosecco from the Veneto, a beautiful Chianti from Tuscany, then an Aglianico from Southern Italy, Basilicata. These will be three fantastic and different wines.
Angel and I will prepare an Italian dinner to pair with Zoe's wines. With the Prosecco we will serve a fritto misto with shrimp and calamari, a crepe filled with meat and bechamel, then a spicy chicken dish with tomatoes and onions. We will finish with an Italian flourless chocolate cake with an Amaretto whipped cream.
1st Course
Fritto Misto
(Shrimp, Calamari, Fennel)
Wine-Maresina Prosecco, Veneto
“Lean and balanced with aromas of jasmine, this Prosecco offers a nice minerality that runs through the glass. The palate is full of ripe fruit and even bubbles with a tasty saline quality.” Rating: 89
2nd Course
Meat stuffed Crespelle with Besciamella
Wine-Giuliano Rosati Chianti, Tuscany
“The intensely earthy, umami nose features aromas of soil, mushrooms, pepper and balsamic, but fruit notes of black cherries and dark berries provide balance while preserving a feeling of depth. The earth and black cherry tones headline the palate, before a bitter, slightly spicy finish.”
Entrée
Pollo alla Potentina
(Chicken with Tomatoes, Onion, and Chili)
Wine-Vigneti del Vulture Pipoli Aglianico del Vulture, Basilicata Italy
“From the first aromas on the nose that bring to mind drinking a cherry-vanilla Coke while sitting on wet pavement, youthful warmth is the defining characteristic of this expression of the sometimes less approachable Aglianico grape. The palate of chocolate-cherry cookies with a hint of orange peel extend the feeling of a relaxed, informal encounter, but the prominent acid ensures a certain liveliness through the finish.”
Dessert
Torte Caprese
(Italian Flourless Chocolate Cake)
$50 per person
